First opened in the 1950’s, Tryall Club is one of the Caribbean’s legacy resorts, featuring 81 sumptuous private villas, each one completely distinct in design and layout and equipped with its own full staff, personal chef, and private swimming pool.
Set among 2,200 lush acres that were formerly the vast sugar cane fields of one most prominent plantations in the West Indies, The Tryall Club has been designated a National Heritage Foundation site. It is a pedigree name among the leading CEO enclaves of the world, yet is also perfect for staging unforgettable destination weddings, group meetings and family reunions. Or, for simply getting away en famille for the ultimate in relaxing villa vacations.HISTORY
The Tryall Club was founded by a group of entrepreneurial businessmen in the 1950’s and opened as a private club in 1957 with an 18-hole, 6221-yard par 72 golf course designed by Ralph Plummer. In 1959, the first villa, Little Hill, was completed, followed by several others. A development boom in the 1970’s brought more homes to the estate and again in recent years, which has resulted in a number of impressive new showpiece homes. Tryall Club achieved worldwide exposure in 1995 when it hosted the Johnny Walker World Championship. Since then, it has continued to gain distinction as a world-class golf resort and one of the most elite villa vacation estates in the Caribbean. The resort is anchored by the former plantation’s 19th Century Georgian Great House built in 1834, a classic example of Caribbean Great House vernacular. It sits perched on a mount overlooking the manicured golf greens as they slope down to the Sea past coconut palms, fruit trees and ponds. The Great House serves as the main restaurant and private function space, featuring an expansive outdoor terrace with the island’s best views of Montego Bay and the scenic northern coastline. The well preserved remains of a working 19th Century water wheel and aqueduct are in their original location on the grounds. The plantation’s imposing cast iron cannon that once fired at approaching pirate ships is still in its foreboding position at the base of the Great House.
